First Steps

Claiming your SOS

SOS is the secure San Jacinto College Online System for students & employees. To access SOS, you must claim your account.


If you haven’t already, head over to the SOS Login page at https://www.sanjac.edu/soslogin and select the link that states Claim Your Account. Doing so will allow you to create a unique password for your account, obtain your student email account, and set up your security questions (required to use Self-Service to reset/change your password online). Instructions on how to claim your account are available at https://www.sanjacits.org/getting-account.


Students that claim their account may change their SOS, Blackboard, and Office 365 password by using the Password Self-Service System.

New Student Orientation

After you have claimed your SOS account, you will be prompted to take your New Student Orientation


During this 1.5-hour orientation you’ll:

  • Connect with current students and staff

  • Explore our areas of studies / program majors

  • Learn all about how to navigate San Jac

  • And more


You can schedule to take it in person or virtually through your SOS!

Financial Aid

For federal financial aid, you must:

  • Be a US citizen, or an eligible non-citizen

  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent

  • Be enrolled in an eligible program of study and/or accepted as a certificate or degree seeking student at San Jac

  • Be in good standing with your payments on any federal or state student loan, and any federal grant repayments

  • Take at least the minimum number of hours required by each program

TSI Information

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requires that incoming students, unless exempt, be assessed for college readiness in the areas of reading, mathematics, and writing.

Students must demonstrate college readiness before being allowed to enroll in college-level courses with a certain area skill requirement. College readiness is demonstrated by:


  • Prior college-level coursework with a grade of D or higher

  • Passing an approved assessment test

  • Successful completion of college preparatory coursework with a grade of C or higher


Students that don't pass an area of the assessment are not allowed to enroll in college-level classes with certain skill requirements until those college readiness requirements are met. Students can meet the skills requirement by completing the sequence of college preparatory courses for that area or by passing a retest of the assessment.


Incoming students who are not exempt, and who have not met TSI testing requirements, must meet with an educational planner/counselor, admission, or ACT advisor. This appointment will help determine if you must take an assessment test. Click the link below to schedule your test in-person or virtually:

SAT Exemption


English:

SAT after March 1st, 2016 - Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) 480+


Math:

SAT After March 1, 2016 - 530+

College Bridge Exemption


Students must successfully complete Texas College Bridge in English and/or math, an online college preparatory course. To qualify for this exemption, students must provide a Texas College Bridge certificate of completion. The exemption remains valid for 24 months following the date of high school graduation.


Official documentation of TCB completion must be submitted to San Jacinto College for verification.


ACT Exemption


ACT composite score of 23 or higher on the PLAN with an English score of 19 or higher, or an English score of 435 on the ACT-Aspire. ACT composite score of 23 or higher on the PLAN with a 19 or higher in mathematics, or a mathematics score of 431 on the ACT-Aspire.
